All the Art History You Need in One Poster

Vuk Vidor, an artist from Belgrade working in Paris, created this screen printed mural he calls “Art History” out of a list which uses each line to link an artist to his/her cultural impact in three words. Examples include “MONDRIAN OWNS GEOMETRY”, “POLLOCK OWNS DRIPPINGS”, and our favorite “DUCHAMP OWNS EVERYTHING”.

Size: 41.4 x 29.3 in / 105.2 x 74.3 cm

Edition 200

“The Great Carnival” by Eric Van Den Boom

December 28, 2009 Art, communication, The Rathaus

The Great Carnival is the graduation project of Eric Van Den Boom, a designer with a bad ass name from the Netherlands. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague Area with a bachelors degree in illustrative design. The concept of his project is the culture of haste: “These days our culture teaches us that faster is better. But in the race to keep up, we all suffer the consequences.”

Van Den Boom invented an imaginary carnival to make us aware of how this generation perceives and manages its time. Which is great a idea to be sure, but it’s Van Den Boom’s typographical work and color scheme that really blew us away.

Find out more about The Great Carnival here. Also check Van Den Boom’s full portfolio through his design studio BoomArtwork.

“6ixth on the 6ixth: Me Mhakes (sic)”

December 5, 2008 Art, The Rathaus

This Saturday, December 6th at 7pm The Brick in Kansas City will host the opening reception for DJG Design’s art show entitled “6ixth on the 6ixth: Me Mhakes (sic).” The month long exhibition may include DJG’s latest efforts but we hear the leftovers from previous shows will also be available at the opening, and at discounted prices. There will also be some music at event provided by The Tambourine Club and Konnor Ervin of The ACBs.

DJG Design is one man design firm out of Kansas City who specializes in creating concert posters using his own handwriting, collage, stencils, and even found objects. Like this Baby Birds Don’t Drink Milk poster designed by DJG in 2006 using envelopes for the background, red marker to scribble some information and the shells of dead locusts to create the band’s name. Now that’s what I call multimedia.
