PLUG PROJECTS is pleased to announce our first solo exhibition: Andrew Jacob Schell “MULTI-CHANNEL : an exhibition in flux”

January 20 – March 3, 2012
Exhibition Opening: January 20, 6pm - 9pm
Gallery Hours: Saturdays 10am - 5pm and by appointment

“Multi-Channel” by Andrew Jacob Schell is an environment of paintings, performances, sound, video surveillance and Internet presence. Schell’s ideas regarding systems, artificial organism structures, interactions of parts within the whole, and control vs. chance will be expanded on and tested within the gallery space. The site of the gallery will function as an art laboratory for experimentation as the exhibition continues to evolve over the six-week period. The viewers will be able to both witness the artist at work and the evolution of the installation. Thus the visitors to the gallery will become active participants in the process, affecting the work by their presence within the environment.

Schell approaches his work from the position of a “tinkerer” or an experimental scientist with a strong interest in industrial design, architecture, and media manipulation. In this exhibition, Schell questions the support structures that we exist within and take for granted. Both physical systems as well as systems of belief are presented in a new light that challenge traditional mode of art presentation and the artist/audience relationship. He builds comparisons between aerial views of suburban subdivisions and motherboards that are built up through layers of paint, cut plastic, and fiberboard. His paintings are imbedded in a history of process and employ organic motifs that simultaneously fracture, shift, grow, and spread. The layers read as terrains of thought and contribute to Schell’s understanding of American culture and identity.

Schell will be inviting a series of artists to collaborate with him through improvisational interactions utilizing the video and sound structures he has constructed within the gallery space. The Internet will be used as a platform to broadcast a live video feed of current activity in the gallery. Believing in the “art as experience” approach, Schell allows the audience to participate in shaping the work avoiding a predefined end-result.

About the artist:
Andrew Jacob Schell was born in 1975, in Clinton, Missouri. He attended Emporia State University where he received a BFA in 1998 and an MFA in painting in 2005 from Ohio University. Most recently his work has become part of the permanent collection at the Yellowstone Art Museum. Schell has also participated in group and solo shows across the country, including SOIL gallery in Seattle, WA and Epsten Gallery in Overland Park, KS. Currently, Schell is residing in Lenexa, Kansas, and teaches at Johnson County Community College.

Grey Area
LOST ART SPACE, 845 Massachusetts, Lawrence, KS
Map: Show in Google map
5:00 pm
to 9:00 pm
The Lost Art Space studio/gallery features a show built around the processes and environments that externally shape the inner urge to construct and create. The lines between gallery and studio become blurred as the six resident artists expand into the main gallery with individual site-specific installations focused on conceptual ideas & the interplay of layers that develop into a finished work of art. This show attempts to illuminate the grey areas between thinking and making, material and artifact, creator and creation and the underlying threads between us all.

Along with the work of studio artists Paul Flinders, Jeromy Morris, Jason Barr, Erok Johanssen, Jesse Gray, and Jeremy Rockwell, multimedia projects from New Zealand and Colorado will be displayed, as well as new microchip paintings by Yuri Zupancic, jewelry from Wayne Propst and KANVAS Co., work by Matt Ridgway, Robert Gandy and other local favorites.

Opening reception 5-9, February 24th, and runs until the end of the month. Lost Art is located at 845 Massachussetts (formerly Pennie Annie's Sweet Shoppe).

Rex Hausemann lives and works as a full-time artist in San Antonio and New York City. Hausmann earned a BFA in Painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design. He has worked on projects both nationally and internationally and has shown and lectured globally. His work and large projects often revolve around identities found in communal and domestic contexts, tracing their connections

… heck, the story of a creative life in mid America! (With a Whole Lot of Friends)
COMMUNITY!

An installation/exhibition by a Creative Community, in motion.

The idea behind this project is simple: exposing an artistic community to an audience for the audience to enjoy & participate. Much like Sol Lewitt had his wall drawings, people instead of lines create a mesh of relationships, metaphysically through e mails, phone calls. Eventually personal contact & a physical object creates a totem of the persons visit. The process is open to enterprising, yet simple boundaries exists: keep your voice within the specified space of The Lawrence Arts Center. The small space will begin to look like a small store, full of a verity of things for sale, with the space taking on the life of a studio too. The space itself & individual voices will direct the exhibition itself. The experience’s existence will changing every day. This a metaphor for the art of creative community, the people we surround ourselves with, the people we as human interact with on a daily basis & the trials & joys that come along with those
relationships.

Map: Show in Google map
6:00 pm

Rehearsing the amorphous forms
A river and a cloud
My relatives I call them
And think of them often
They come to me in recovery rooms
They come without handles or angles
A true badge of the Real
Indefinitely they are
in the church of this-or-that
The carpooled Saint and the chauffeured Prophet
An experience here
A nuance there
Flirting the line
Absorbed in the form
A hardly found blur, the newest prescription
Like a system of ethics
Exposed to the air

Nicholas Ward received his BFA in 2007 from the University of South Dakota and his MFA in 2010 from the university of Kansas. In 2008, Nicholas was invited to study at the KID Puppet For Film Animation School in Prague CZ. Reverend Horton Heat w/ Larry and His Flask & Goddam Gallows

Undeniably, The Reverend Horton Heat, aka Jim Heath, is the biggest, baddest, grittiest, greasiest, greatest rocker that ever piled his hair up and pounded the drinks down. Without question, for all of his outlandish antics, blistering stage performances and legendary musical prowess, the one thing The Rev always gets asked about is the story behind his unusual and rather clerical moniker. "Well, there used to be this guy who ran this place in Deep Ellum, Texas who used to call me Horton- my last name is Heath," says The Rev. "Anyway, this guy hired me and right before the show he goes, 'Your stage name should be Reverend Horton Heat! Your music is like gospel' and I thought it was pretty ridiculous. So I'm up there playing and after the first few songs, people are saying, 'Yeah, Reverend!' What's really funny is that this guy gave up the bar business, and actually became a preacher! Now he comes to our shows and says, 'Jim, you really should drop this whole Reverend thing.'

> MARTYPARTY
[Dubstep, Purple, Future Bass | MartyParty Music | New York, NY]

MartyParty is a music producer and performer. Born and raised in South Africa and residing in Brooklyn, NY, his music runs the gambit from sexy hip hop to intense dance to dirty dubstep… sometimes pretty and soft, sometimes hard and dirty, but always emotional.

MartyParty started producing his own flavor of music in 2005 with the mission to change the monotony of electronic music by creating an entirely different electronic sound: more musical, more story telling, and more diversity in the beats. The result is a growing anthology of MartyParty music crossing over most popular genres into a rich sound he calls Purple.

MartyParty’s live “Purple Opera” is a seamless voyage through an original music collection taking the audience on a the roller coaster ride of emotion and dance. Intense bass, huge beats, emotional melodies and cutting edge sound design all come together for a wild trip – unique to every performance.

There are no “disks” and he is no “jockey.” Working without headphones using Ableton Live on a laptop, the ability to mix more than two channels creates an entirely new audio experience for the audience. The live set is a show… a high energy, intense dance party.

“I just want to make kids freak out and let loose – we all came to party – I make a party – you have no choice but to get into it – young and old – one thing is for sure, you’ll be going nuts.” – MartyParty

MartyParty plays MartyParty music although he will mix in some hot tracks from other dope producers…. “Because I love hearing the latest sick tracks on the big system too.” He then overlays his music with one shot’s, crunky acappella vocal samples, and brings it all together with his custom filter and delay system he manipulates live with a pad and slider controller.

MartyParty is always writing new music, on the plane, in the hotel, wherever. In his studio in Brooklyn he writes a track a day all the way to final master and releases it onto his website. The music comes fast and this is how MartyParty likes it. He wants his audience to never know what to expect in each show, and loves to play the new material for the first time for maximum effect. MartyParty live sets are always spontaneous and never choreographed. They are always different, depending on the crowd, venue, sound system and energy in the room.

“It’s all about experimentation and invention – that’s why I make music the way I do. The new tooling in digital music production allows me to sit alone in my room on my iMac with two KRK Rockit monitors and a subwoofer, and produce original music from the first chord, right through to mastering and release on the internet – in one day. This freedom and power make it easy to explore the limits of the audible sound spectrum, including sub bass, poly-melodic harmonics and sound design, with incredible speed, productivity and without complying to any convention. My mission is to change the way people think about electronic music and to bring the art of musical composition back into popular music. My dream is that I inspire others to do the same. We live in a digital world, I’m not interested in emulating anything that has been done before.” – MartyParty

Smooth Money Gesture is the culmination of years of musical experimentation, travel and friendship. Over the years the band has seen a few different lineups and has been honing in on their sound, bringing their music from the east coast to Alaska to Nederland, Colorado where the band permenantly resides. The core of the group has always been the Diminico brothers and lifelong friend and fellow musician Josh Gitlin-Rich. Doug Diminico plays lead guitar and sings alongside his brother Dan Diminico (bass guitar and vocals). Josh Gitlin-Rich adds his own brand of guitar and synth sounds to compliment Smooth Money's ethereal jams. Pete Goldberg, on keys and vocals (formerly of the band Gold Hill)adds a whole new dimension to Smooth Money's music with his energetic playing and gritty vocals. Scott Llewellyn on drums and Nathaniel Haas (formerly of Mountain Standard Time) on percussion and vocals keep the band driving while adding a touch of polyrhythmic flare to their unique brand of music. The quintet’s sound is rooted in rock and roll with elements of funk, bluegrass, metal, and electronica. Smooth Money Gesture's music has taken these influences and twisted them around with the individual band member's influences and musical presences, and evolved their own sound into a high energy psychedelic creation of their own which grabs the crowd and won't let go!

A Smooth Money Gesture performance consists of creative and unique originals, rich with vocal harmonies that always keep the crowd going. With the majority of the band members singing vocal and backup harmonies and a variety in song writing, instrumentation, and influences, SMG is able to take a jam anywhere at any point and if they feel like it, right back to where it came from! Taking the SMG experience to another planet is the job of Bryce on lights and effects. Bryce has been working with SMG, adding a light show that's as over the top as the music, and is an integral part of the Smooth Money experience. Sprinkle in the occasional unexpected cover or teases from bands such as The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa, The Allman Brothers, The Grateful Dead, and Phish, and you'll have a night to remember!

Smooth Money Gesture can be seen all over their home state of Colorado where they have graced the stage of many venues including Boulder’s legendary Fox Theater. Included in their ever expanding touring schedule are the great states of Idaho, Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah.

He also co-owns the new Lost Arts Gallery & Studio in Lawrence. He is known for his youthful sensibilities and insane sense of humor. His work channels the youthful spirit often shed after the teenage years. Bright colors wed with bizarre and often funny imagery to create a feeling of true artistic freedom. His "No Rules" attitude is perfectly mirrored in the wild world he creates. The work itself is a celebration of outsider art and often meant to hold a mirror to the silly things we obsess over. There's always something lurking beneath watercolor drips and glitter. These paintings show you a man’s mind, attempting to guide us back to a simpler time. Artistic creation and freedom help us see how moral ambiguity has led us astray. BARRR's work let's you know that even though the world may be scary, you're welcome here with us freaks!

BARRR also records and produces the internationally renown podcast featured on BARRRHEAVEN.COM and iTunes called A.D.D! He chats with other artists about all of the issues he addresses in his work. It's a crazy world! Let's talk about it! No Rules!

OTT @ The Granada

OTT will be playing a FREE show with more guests to be announced! Read his bio below and we will see you there!

Ott was doomed to be a teenager in the cultural wasteland that was the mid-1980's provincial England. After a brief period wandering aimlessly through the hairsprayed deserts of New Romanticism and
poodle-rock he found refuge in the warm, inviting sounds of Scientist, King Tubby, LKJ, and Prince Far-I and the effortless grace of European experimentalists Neu! and Kraftwerk. Here he stayed until he felt it was safe to pop his head up again.

The end of the 1980's brought with it a cultural and musical revolution and Ott headed to London to immerse himself in the new energy. Initially unimpressed by the frantic, unmusical clatterings of acid house and "rave" he discovered a new wave of artists who apparently shared his love of organic dub and pristine electronics. Artists such as The Orb, Dub Syndicate, FSOL and African Head Charge. These were people who were unafraid to combine bass-heavy rhythm, abstract soundscape and timeless melody into a huge, ever-shifting sonic universe which reflected perfectly the spirit of hope and positivity which prevailed.

It was at this point that Ott found his first work as an engineer in several studios around North London. Working obsessively, 18 hours a day, seven days a week for the next ten years, Ott began developing the skills which would see him go on to work with many of those who created the sounds which inspired him in the first place - Brian Eno, The Orb, Youth, African Head Charge, Steve Hillage, and On-U-Sound.

After spending the 1990's freelancing around London as a studio engineer and producer, Ott celebrated the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st by giving it all up and moving to a remote cottage in South West England to be alone with his cats and his studio. With a vague plan to create the perfect soundtrack to an outdoor English festival he embarked on a series of sonic experiments, drawing heavily on the classic dub sounds from Jamaica and hypnotic electronic pulse from Germany which had provided such a refuge during the 1980's. A period of intense creativity followed, during which a great many tracks were created and then stashed away on tapes, seemingly never to see the light of day.

In the meantime, Ott hatched a plan to remix half a dozen or so classic Hallucinogen trance tracks and release them as dub mixes - slower, fatter and more chillout friendly. In 2002 the album "Hallucinogen in Dub" was released via Twisted Records to universal acclaim. Buoyed by the success of "Hallucinogen in Dub", the following year Ott gathered together and released his earlier sonic experiments as the album "Blumenkraft" which was also very well received and which attracted a great many listeners around the world.

The next few years passed in a whirl of gigs, remixes [Shpongle, Entheogenic, Tripswitch] and collaborative projects - "Umberloid" with friend and multi-instrumentalist Chris Barker, and "Gargoyles"
with Simon Posford [Hallucinogen, Shpongle]. During this time Ott travelled the world, got married, welcomed his daughter Daisy to the world and wrote his third album "Skylon" - which was released on
Twisted Records in early 2008.

>> GEMINI (UK)

"At just 21 years of age, this British-born talent comes with a vision spreading across electronic music, so unique that respected dubstep figure Inspector Dubplate was compelled to sign Gemini's debut EP 'Blue' immediately to launch his label Inspected, to massive acclaim from both the critics and the dancefloor.

Combining his skill as an accomplished piano player with emotional synths, apocalyptic bass drops and futuristic beat patterns that defy all genre expectations, Gemini’s music is intense but always melodic, aggressive yet somehow uplifting.

Treading a delicate path through classical, timeless composition and bass-bin rattling chaos, it is hard to believe that the rest of the scene had failed to take advantage of
the amazing fusion between light and dark that infuses Gemini’s music.

The high production values and originality of the ‘Blue EP’ stunned dancefloors internationally, and Gemini has already been headhunted to remix tracks by Deadmau5, Nicole Scherzinger, French-Soler, Diddy, Willow Smith, Jamiroquai, Kelis and Hadouken.

Gemini’s dedication to production and an unshaking passion to breathe unique sounds and forms into dance music suggest a promising future for this young, immensely talented artist.

This Graduation EP on Inspected Records is definitely firing some of his most inspired, monumental tracks yet; Gemini is on the cusp of supernova success."

>> KOAN SOUND (UK)

"KOAN Sound is an electronic music act consisting of Will Weeks and Jim Bastow, both hailing from Bristol, UK.

The group’s early origins and influences lie mainly in acoustic based music, from bands such as Incubus to RATM, but it wasn’t until 2005 that the duo became immersed in electronic music through acts such as Noisia and The Prodigy. Soon after, the growing Dubstep scene in Bristol began to inform their productions, eventually leading to a string of releases on various labels.

In early 2011 KOAN Sound released their first extended single, the ‘Max Out EP’. The release signaled a turning point in their production, gradually moving away from the 140bpm template and showcasing a wider range of styles than before. It also helped bring more attention to the act, and led to working with a number of artists, including singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran.

Later in the year the group would unveil their biggest release to date, the ‘Funk Blaster EP’ on Skrillex’s OWSLA imprint. The EP achieved the No. 1 spot in the Beatport releases category, and received exclusive featuring from US-based magazine Rolling Stone.

The duo rounded off the year with DJ sets across Europe and North America, and picked up ‘Best Breakthrough Artist’ at the Dubstep Music Awards in November."

Yonder Mountain String Band w/ Brown Bird at Liberty Hall
Liberty Hall
Map: Show in Google map
7:00 pm
to 10:00 pm
Tickets on-sale 2-27-12!

Yonder Mountain String Band has always played music by its own set of rules. Bending bluegrass, rock and countless other influences that the band cites, Yonder has pioneered a sound of their own. With their traditional lineup of instruments, the band may look like a traditional bluegrass band at first glance but they’ve created their own music that transcends any genre. Dave Johnston points out “What could be more pure than making your own music.” Yonder’s sound cannot be classified purely as “bluegrass” or “string music” but rather it’s an original sound created from “looking at music from [their] own experiences and doing the best job possible.” The band continues to play by their own rules on their new record The Show.

The Colorado-based foursome has crisscrossed the country over the past eleven years playing such varied settings as festivals, rock clubs, Red Rocks Amphitheater in the band’s home state, and recently the Democratic National Convention in Denver at Mile High Stadium opening for Barack Obama. Their loyal fanbase has been built from this diverse setting of music venues as fans latched on to their genre-defying original sound.

In between tours the band spent time this last year working on its fifth studio album. Set for a September 1 release on the band’s own label, The Show is the second album with rock producer Tom Rothrock (Beck, Elliott Smith, Foo Fighters). While some might scratch their heads as to why a string band would want a rock producer, this decision was a natural choice for the band. “We don’t have a lot of nostalgia for the past,” says banjo player Dave Johnston. “You shouldn’t try to recreate the 1940s. I like to think of us as informed by the past and all the great performers before us. But we also want to look forward rather than give people something that has already been perfected.”

The Show has the similar acoustic instrumentation (Adam Aijala on guitar, Johnston on banjo, Jeff Austin on mandolin and Ben Kaufman on bass with all four singing) as many of its classic bluegrass forefathers. Though once again drums are present (as with the self-titled fourth album) with the great Pete Thomas of Elvis Costello’s bands adding a rhythmic backdrop to Yonder’s still-acoustic sound on six of the tracks. The record consists of thirteen songs all written by Yonder.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ink’s Middle of the Map Fest
April 5-7, 2012
80+ Bands. 8 Venues. 10 Stages. 3 Days. $35.

February 1st, Kansas City, MO – Ink magazine, Kansas City’s premier lifestyle and entertainment publication, and The Record Machine, a locally owned record label, are pleased to announce the second annual Ink's Middle of the Map Fest. This year’s music festival will take place April 5 -7 in Kansas City’s Westport entertainment district and will provide an exceptional lineup of local, national, international and emerging talent from around the globe, including Mission of Burma, Fun, Neon Indian and F****ed Up. Tickets are $20 for a one-day pass (Friday or Saturday) or $35 for a festival pass. All passes are on sale now at middleofthemapfest.com.

Building on the success of last year’s fest, this year promises to be even more ambitious with 30 more bands and four more venues. Attendees will be able to see a variety of music acts and genres from rock, pop, indie, hip hop, electronic, shoegaze, psych, punk and more. A third day has been added to accommodate the increased roster. The Thursday night kick-off will feature reunions of classic Kansas City bands including Molly McGuire, Season to Risk (Robots Win Era) and The Esoteric. The reunions will continue throughout the weekend with sets from other classic Kansas City bands Reflector and Minus Story.

The festival is the brainchild of The Record Machine label owner Nathan Reusch, who has been releasing music by bands from Kansas City and beyond since April 2003. One of the festival goals was to promote community amongst the Kansas City music scene. In keeping with this spirit, stages have also been curated by local labels Golden Sound Records and Indyground Entertainment. The fest is also bringing home former locals like Nate Harold from Fun and Baby Teardrops led by Matt Dunehoo. This year’s festival will also feature many international acts from Europe, such as Greece shoegazers Keep Shelly in Athens and UK musicians Jonquil and Chad Valley. In addition to The Record Machine and Ink magazine, the festival is also curated by promoters Steve Tulipana (from Record Bar), Neill Smith (from Riot Room) and Terry Taylor (from Hunt Industries).

The 2012 line-up will feature: Mission of Burma, Neon Indian, Fun, F***ed Up, Murder by Death, El Ten Eleven, White Denim, Deastro, Coalesce, Hooray for Earth, Acid Mothers Temple, Casket Lottery, The Life and Times, Keep Shelly in Athens, Chad Valley, Jonquil, A Lull, Elite Gymnastics, Mr. Gnome, Gold Motel, Friends, Capybara, Cowboy Indian Bear, Soft Reeds, Molly McGuire, Reflector, Minus Story, The Esoteric, Season To Risk, Hospital Ships, Nerves Junior, Phantasmagoria, Broncho, Beacon, Ad Astra Arkestra, Thee Water MoccaSins, Deadringers, La Guerre, Motorboater, Everyday/Everynight, Maps For Travelers, Spirit Is The Spirit, Max Justus, Sam Billen, Believers, Akkilles, Beau Jennings, Christopher Paul Stelling, Baby Teardrops, Saintseneca, Sleepy Kitty and Unicycle Loves You.

This year Middle of the Map Fest is also facilitating a Tech, Art and Culture Forum at OfficePort in the Crossroads Arts District on April 5 and 6. Compelling speakers and dynamic content will transform audiences into participants through this new and anticipated addition to the festival. Forum tickets are $50 or $75 includes the music fest pass. Find more information at middleofthemapfest.com.

The band Guitar Wolf (ギターウルフ), founded in Nagasaki, Japan in 1987, are known for their piercing vocals and extremely loud style of garage punk that emphasized heavy distortion. They coined the phrase “Jett Rock ‘n’ Roll”, a homage to rocker Joan Jett, which they also use to describe their musical style - an energetic cross between The Ramones, rockabilly, classic punk, and noise rock. The band star in cult classic zombie flick Wild Zero.

Split Lip Rayfield, Red Eye Gravy

The fire rages on for the powerhouse trio from Kansas, Split Lip Rayfield (SLR), as they celebrate the release of their new record, "I’ll Be Around." The new album showcases the songwriting talents of mandolin player Wayne Gottstine and banjo player Eric Mardis, tied together by the harmony and deep-bass licks of Jeff Eaton. Such songs as "Aces High," "Heart of Darkness," and "The High Price of Necromancy" will take listeners on a journey of love, loss, change, and dark powers, as they discover what lies in the mysterious minds of SLR. The song for which the album is named, "I’ll Be Around," serves as a tribute to the band’s fallen teammate Kirk Rundstrom, whose influence on the band and its path was great. Rundstrom’s legacy continues to live on in the new album and also the band itself as every live show is dedicated to his memory. Split Lip Rayfield has carved out their own genre of music with their unique sound and instrumentation. Often described as a mix of bluegrass and country with an accent of metal, no other band delivers the experience of the homemade gas-tank bass played by Jeff Eaton, sets the mandolin strings on fire like Wayne Gottstine, or makes the banjo sing like Eric Mardis. Together, they burn up speakers and stages alike providing an unforgettable experience. This is one trio not to miss! For more information about the new Split Lip Rayfield album, "I’ll Be Around," or live shows, please visit their website at www.splitliprayfield.com.

"Asaf borger aka Borgore, has unquestionably become a household name for those who follow the ever growing Dubstep sound.

Distant from the main stages and social circles of Dubstep in Europe, especially in the UK, Borgore turned to creating a huge online presence using many social network platforms.

Music has always been the biggest aspect of his life. Weather it was playing the piano when he was just three years old or graduating from one of the best youth programs in the world as a saxophone major, playing the drums for a Deathmetal band or MC’ing alongside Tomba on their live beatbox group, (which later into their Dubstep group, Amp) Borgore has dipped his toes into many areas of music."

Leftover Salmon
Colorado’s Polyethnic Cajun Slamgrass
“On The Road Again…2012 Winter Tour!”

Leftover Salmon is excited to announce the dates for their 2012 On The Road Again winter tour. The multi-date tour will find the band performing through the Rocky Mountain region and marks the band’s lengthiest tour since spring 2004. The On The Road Again tour begins February 28th and continues through March 12th.

The sound of Colorado’s legendary Leftover Salmon is unmistakable: fluid, loose-limbed, and simultaneously rootsy and daring. Fusing an unrivaled improvisational fervor to a dizzying combination of bluegrass, Cajun, funk, Southern rock, boogie, Caribbean, Latin, and jazz influences, Leftover Salmon has earned a legion of diehard fans, critical accolades, and a reputation as one of the most exciting, engaging concert experiences to ever hit the road.

The origins of Leftover Salmon are as intriguing as their name. The group was born in Boulder, Colorado in 1989, as the result of a merger between Vince Herman (from Cajun/Calypso/Jugband The Salmonheads) and Drew Emmitt (of progressive bluegrass Left Hand String Band.)

Leftover Salmon is back to their classic 5 piece lineup featuring: Vince Herman (Guitar/Vocals), Drew Emmitt (Multi Instrumentalist/ Vocals), Greg Garrison (Bass/Vocals), Andy Thorn (Banjo/Vocals), Jose Martinez (Drums).

The band has recently recorded it’s first album in over 8 years with producer Steve Berlin (Los Lobos). The album will be released this year. Leftover Salmon will also hit the road this year with some full length tours.

"We’re really fired up to get back on the road and turn up the slamgrass" says Vince Herman.
Throughout the course of 22 years, Leftover Salmon has performed music with such contemporaries as Sam Bush, Bela Fleck, David Grisman, Jerry Douglas, Del McCoury, Peter Rowan, Pete Wernick, Col. Bruce Hampton, Oteil Burbridge, Bill Payne, Darol Anger, Mike Marshall, Pete Sears, Todd Park Mohr, Tony Furtado, Theresa Anderson, along with members of The String Cheese Incident, Phish, Widespread Panic, Yonder Mountain String Band, Railroad Earth, Little Feat and dozens of additional artists.
The band continues to break new ground with its highly energetic live performances and initiate new fans with each show.
