Golden Corral
Wonder Fair: Art Gallery, Shoppe & Studio (803 1/2 Massachusetts Street in Lawrence, KS)
Friday, September 24, 5-10pm (Ongoing through October 24)

From the organizers:
Featuring Original Works by Yuri Zupancic, Roger Shimomura, Wayne Propst, Molly Murphy, Dave Loewenstein, Stan Herd, Eric Dobbins, and portraits of the artists by Jouvelt.

The concept of the local becomes more and more important as society becomes more and more global. Transportation and communication superhighways have opened the world to us, and by extension, shown us the importance and fascination of our own backyards. Lawrence has a long tradition of supporting the local: local business, local produce, local history, and local talent.

GOLDEN CORRAL features work from a diverse cross-section of the local art scene. The eight artists included have held important roles in the diversification and maturation of visual art in Lawrence, not only through their exceptional work but what they have given back to the community. In addition to being artists, they are gallery owners, curators, teachers, activists, gate-keepers, trend-setters, liaisons, and enthusiasts.

Jouvelt (Joel Feldt) has spent formative years in Lawrence, developing and honing his trademark style as designer and artist. He recently moved out of town, westward to Colorado and as a nod back to Lawrence created a series of portraits depicting notable local artists that have made an impact on him (original portraits are on view at the Lawrence Arts Center).

Wonder Fair, moving with the spirit of the local art scene and the Final Friday art walk, is showing prints of these portraits alongside original works by each of the depicted artists.
As a local business, and ardent supporter of the local arts, Wonder Fair is proud to give our own nod to these talented artists – whose impact has extended well beyond the local and into the global sphere. We think everyone deserves a good show and hope you like this one. Thank you to all those involved, including you, the gallery-goer.
