Artist Shout Out: Christopher Davison’s “Disasters Are People Too” Series

February 23, 2010 Art, The Rathaus

“Sculpture Garden (Stand Alone)” gouache on Eaton 100% cotton paper 8.5″ x 5.5″

Christopher Davison recently updated his website with, in his words: “18 very new, very dark, very small drawings that I would like to share with you. They are visions from the long, cold, Winter nights.” A sentiment I think we can all echo during this particularly tough winter. And in a move showing off his internet savvy, Davison is offering a hi-res version of his drawing pictured above as a free download.

Style: Fall 2010 New York

February 23, 2010 Fashion

Maybe it’s my slightly more “glass half empty” attitude as of late (damn snow), but New York fashion week has left me feeling slightly underwhelmed. My own personal fashion attitude has been taking me to understated, yet luxurious places – maxi dresses, flowing pants, wraps, shawls, hats, prints – while New York seems to have run the other direction. The Fall 2010 collections were inundated with darkness, overstyling, and in my opinion, a little trash – crop tops, cut outs, sheer and velvet in all the wrong places. And although I’ve agreed with most of the choices young it-boy Alexander Wang has made up till now, I would have to say his Fall 2010 collection is the epitome of my fashion hate.

But through the mess of forced dramatization, I have managed to pull out the three collections I feel hit it right on the mark.
