"Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr., a prolific songwriter who, under the stage name Jay Reatard, was a force in the worlds of punk and garage rock, was found dead in his home in Memphis early on Wednesday. He was 29." (source: ny times)

It was not known what caused Lindsey's death. His roommate found him in bed at about 3:30am and then called the police.

Lindsey started his recording career at 15 with home recordings and would go on to release 22 records and a ridiculous number of singles with many bands, including the Reatards, the Lost Sounds, the Bad Times and the Final Solutions.

In an interview with The New York Times last August, Reatard stated why he was compelled to create so much music so fast, ""Everything I do, is motivated by the fear of running out of time."

Lindsey was true punk rocker and a unique character. Both he and his music will be missed.

As a tribute we're posting two of our favorite albums by Reatard, his 2006 solo project entitled Blood Visions (Fat Possum) and the Lost Sounds' self-titled LP from 2004 (In The Red). Enjoy.
