Operating an independent record store in the age of itunes is no easy task, so when one continues to thrive it should be uniquely celebrated. And that is precisely what Harvest Records of Asheville, N.C. is doing August 13-15, marking their fifth year as record store, record label, and overall supporter of the arts with a three day, three venue music festival called “Transfigurations.”
Plenty of stellar artists are slated to play including: Mount Eerie, Kurt Vile, Circulatory System, The Books, Budos Band, Akron/Family, Jonathan Kane, Ice Cream, Espers, Villages, The War on Drugs, The Coathangers, Steve Gunn, Brightblack Morning Light, and the recently confirmed Bonnie “Prince” Billy. Plus, “Transfigurations” will feature discussions with Eric Isaacson of the Mississippi Records label, Lance Ledbetter of rare recording specialists Dust-to-Digital, and Nathan Salsburg, producer and archivist for the Alan Lomax Archive and curator of the Twos & Fews imprint on Drag City.
Tickets are on sale now: $80 regular weekend passes (“Regafigurations”) guarantee your entry to every show and are limited. $130 special weekend passes (“Megafigurations” ) include guaranteed entry, a t-shirt, a limited edition silk-screened poster, a 7 -inch, and a bag full of swag, and are even more limited than regular passes so buy those soon.
