Asteroid Head Summer Camp Recap

If there’s one thing the Asteroid Head Art Club knows, it’s how to have fun. Tug -O-War, Canoe Races, Slip and Slide Trick Jams, Mystery Drink Challenges, Potato Sack Races, and a team of camp counselors overwrought with the power of a handheld loudspeaker. Tucked in the sort of paradise found only on the outskirts of excess, Asteroid Head Summer Camp offered a sweet relief from the pop, Pop, POP of firecrackers lit in back alleys by drunken Joes willing to trade cash for the power of explosion.

More often than not I’m turned off by the hipster recreation of childhood memories, twenty somethings (and let’s admit it, some in our thirties) pushing the 1980′s like an advertiser’s dream, with an air of self-recognition beyond the innocence of our youth. But when your camp leader is truly a child at heart, people let go and find a place within themselves before judgment, a place for pure competition and simple fun.

Thanks to Asteroid Head for a memorable Fourth. A unique experience we hope to have captured in these photos. Read on for a visual tour of our Summer Camp.
