Wonder Fair Art Gallery (803 Massachusetts, Lawrence, KS) presents "Rust Still Dreams," new works by Jordan Briceland and Charles Ray. Opening reception for the show will be held Saturday, March 7th from 6 - 9pm with beverages provided by Far Out! Catering and music provided by DJ Candlepants & Gloria Vanderbilt.

Artist Statement: Humankind often views rust as a corrosive nuisance to its industrial advancements. However, rust is the footprint of a material transformation. It is a metaphor for human existence as a marker of time passed. The antithesis of paint, rust disrupts the conformity of a surface with organic texture and tonality. It reimagines the aesthetic of its landscape while dreamily reinventing the form from which it came.

Jordan Briceland: Jordan Briceland was born and raised in and around Kansas. He enrolled in the sculpture department at KU in 2005, finishing up his coursework in the winter of '08. His artistic practice is defined by mold-making, metal-casting, and assemblage. He produces sculpture that questions the balance that exists between objects of the natural world and those of industrial mishap.

Charles Ray: Charles Ray is a 35 year old artist who has been living and working in Kansas since 1992. Ray acquired an Associate of Arts Degree from Cowley County Community College in 1994 and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Printmaking from the University of Kansas in 2002. Originally, Ray was a symbolist painter, approaching his subjects in a realist fashion. Over the last four years, Ray has been working with nontraditional materials such as rust, in combination with self-created processes and techniques inspired by his printmaking experience. Creating mainly abstract imagery, he has recently been experimenting with ways to integrate symbolism into his artwork and form more representational imagery.
