“6ixth on the 6ixth: Me Mhakes (sic)”

December 5, 2008 Art, The Rathaus

This Saturday, December 6th at 7pm The Brick in Kansas City will host the opening reception for DJG Design’s art show entitled “6ixth on the 6ixth: Me Mhakes (sic).” The month long exhibition may include DJG’s latest efforts but we hear the leftovers from previous shows will also be available at the opening, and at discounted prices. There will also be some music at event provided by The Tambourine Club and Konnor Ervin of The ACBs.

DJG Design is one man design firm out of Kansas City who specializes in creating concert posters using his own handwriting, collage, stencils, and even found objects. Like this Baby Birds Don’t Drink Milk poster designed by DJG in 2006 using envelopes for the background, red marker to scribble some information and the shells of dead locusts to create the band’s name. Now that’s what I call multimedia.

The Immersion Project

From the Daily Telegraph: “Robbie Cooper’s film stills capture children’s faces as they play violent videogames and form the basis of an art project that could also help us understand the effects of spending time in a virtual world.”

“Beautiful Losers” Screening in KC

December 3, 2008 Art, The Rathaus

On Dec. 4th at 8pm in the Tivoli Cinemas, The Kansas City chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) will be screening the local premiere of “Beautiful Losers”. The film celebrates the spirit behind an influential cultural movement of the early 90′s that inspired The Rathaus and countless others from that generation to pursue their own creativity. Some of the inspirational outsiders include artists like Shepard Fairey, Geoff McFetridge, Mike Mills, Barry McGee, Harmony Korine and many more.

A synopsis taken from the “Beautilful Losers” website:
“In the early 1990′s a loose-knit group of like-minded outsiders found common ground at a little NYC storefront gallery. Rooted in the DIY (do-it-yourself) subcultures of skateboarding, surf, punk, hip hop & graffiti, they made art that reflected the lifestyles they led. Developing their craft with almost no influence from the “establishment” art world, this group, and the subcultures they sprang from, have now become a movement that has been transforming pop culture.”
